Mirror is thrust into a war she never signed up for when she is rescued (kidnapped?) by a group of rebel clones. The rebels tell her of the thousands of human drones—their free-will stolen by neural implants—who have become slaves for the tyrannical, city-dwelling “controllers”. Sympathetic to their plight, but put off by their desperate tactics, Mirror isn’t sure about throwing in with them. Though full of passion, she isn’t what they expected and is pretty much useless out in the kill-or-be-killed world. Low on resources and with an army of tireless “enforcer” clones drawing closer to uncovering their hidden base daily, the future seems bleak.
Then, when Mirror comes face-to-face with an enforcer, her heart is pierced by the humanity hidden behind dull eyes. Hatching a plan to fry all the neural inhibitors at once, the resistance heads into enemy territory. However, things quickly go awry and a key team member is left for dead. And after infiltrating the City’s nearly impenetrable walls, they soon find that the “controllers” living there are not what they expected.
Surprises from the past reemerge and the lines between friends and enemies become blurred as more is revealed about who is actually in control. Failed plans and desperate decisions prompt Mirror to question which is more important... the mission... or her morality.
